MEDIUMSHIP AND ARTWORK

While doing a reading not too long ago, I was able to channel messages from a woman's late husband who had been trying to reach her for a while.

During our call, the message came through that he comes to her in the form of a blue jay. As the words were coming out of my mouth, a beautiful blue jay flew right down in front of her on her porch.

There is something so beautiful to me, not only in the messages themselves, but in the synchronicities of timing. I am not claiming to have sent this bird to her purposefully or to have the ability to bring objects out of thin air, but I am a firm believer in divine timing and meaningful coincidences. I trust that what comes through for me in a reading is exactly the right thing at the exact right time.

When I begin a reading, I have no way of knowing who or what will come through. I am purely a vessel for communication. I have found this to be true with any artwork I’ve ever created. When I enter into a commission, I always ask for multiple photographs of the thing, person, animal, or place. I feel into the energy of them to find the best way to capture what they are looking for. When I try to force a perfect image or craft something in my head, I end up stuck. The same goes when I start a painting of my own—I am drawn to certain images or photographs that jump out at me. I believe all of us have that intuitive pull in our own way, whether we realize it or not. There are things that come naturally to us, but we can't always explain why—things that just make sense. In this same way, I view all artists as channels. Singers, songwriters, and actors enter their natural flow state when they are in their element, and the same goes for me during painting or reading. We’ve been conditioned to make things a lot harder than they need to be, myself included. But the more I can let things flow, the more easily they come, and the more unexpected surprises arise.

This painting was commissioned by a couple who gifted her the reading, and I was honored to capture this symbol to hang in her home as a constant reminder that he is always with her.
